Impactful Practice Consultant

Transforming complex knowledge and research into useful tools for practice

Are you a passionate leader in the social or justice sector who is struggling to develop services or interventions that are impactful?

Impactful practice is both grounded in a strong evidence-base and innovative, it combines diverse sources of knowledge to develop new ways to solve the problems we face.

Impactful practice leads to meaningful outcomes for all people in Aotearoa, including Māori, Pasifika, youth, people with disabilities, and those experiencing poor wellbeing.

I can help you explore and understand:

  • Is what we’re doing working? Why/why not?

  • What’s happening in practice? What challenges do our kaimahi face?

  • How can we improve practice and see meaningful outcomes?

  • What does the evidence say about this problem?

  • How can we draw from both Māori and Tauiwi knowledge to achieve these outcomes?

The benefits of my approach include clear steps to improve practice and increased confidence in what you’re doing, because you know what’s working and what isn’t, and you have a clear evidence-based and culturally safe way forward to increase the effectiveness of your interventions.

My approach to research

As a pracademic committed to social justice, I’m only interested in research which uplifts the well-being of Aotearoa’s most vulnerable groups. I believe we can and should do better, by identifying strengths and weaknesses, and then innovating to improve practice.

I critically evaluate current practice and research evidence, including conducting applied research to gain an understandign of current practice and the needs of kaihami and clients in your space. I then synthesise this knowledge to make clear recommendations and develop tools for practice.

I’m always learning from the people I work with, including collaboration with Māori and promoting bi-cultural approaches to practice.

Some research feels distant from the ‘real world’, producing long (and unreadable) reports full of statistics and technical language. Instead, I bring a practice-focused approach, I critically engage with different sources of knowledge and bring them together in a clear and useful way.

I look beyond traditional metrics because I understand their limitations and I believe there are many outcomes and sources of knowledge, including different cultural perspectives, which should inform practice.

I have collaborated on numerous research projects and academic publications, including a book about understanding the Psychological causes of violence and the development of a framework for bi-cultural practice. Check out my research and publications on Researchgate and Google Scholar.
